Choosing a BBSA member for your sun shading needs

At AMO Group, we’re proud members of the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) and are committed to offering the highest standards in product quality, installation and customer care. Let’s break down why choosing a BBSA member for your sun shading needs is important and explore some fun facts regarding sun shade for your space.

What a BBSA membership means:

The BBSA is the UK’s leading trade association for the blind, shutter and awning industry. By choosing a BBSA member like us, you benefit from:

✔️Products that meet safety and quality standards

✔️A commitment to ethical working practices

✔️ Confidence that you’re working with a trusted, approved professional.

When you see the BBSA logo, be rest assured that you’re in safe hands.

Here’s some facts about sun shading that have been shared by the BBSA:

Prevent overheating and control temperatures 🌡️

With rising temperatures, homes are becoming increasingly prone to overheating. External sun shade, such as awnings or zip screens, help to reduce solar heat gain, keeping inside your home significantly cooler. If you don’t have any external shading, don’t forget you can use internal shade like blinds! According to the BBSA, buildings are not currently required to pass the overheating criteria using future weather files to comply with UK Building Regulations. Modelling using predicted future weather data has shown that buildings designed with shading products built-in from the start are less likely to overheat in the future. In the summer, solar shading can reduce internal temperatures by up to 19 degrees. In winter, blinds can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 33%. Shading just makes sense!

Privacy for homes with large glazing🔒

With large bi-fold or sliding doors on the rise, privacy is becoming more of a concern. Shading systems such as internal or external blinds, or awnings with drop down valances, offer a smart solution, letting you enjoy your space and the natural light whilst keeping your space private and protected. These solutions also help reduce glare and UV damage to flooring, furniture, and fabrics — especially in bright, south-facing rooms.

Enjoy the natural light☀️

Daylight is a better quality of light than artificial lighting because of it’s distribution, colour rendition and absence of flickering. In a study that analysed the test scores of 21,000 US students, those in classrooms with the largest window areas were found to progress 15% faster in maths and 23% faster in reading. Shading has a valuable role to play in controlling light and glare to harvest natural light.
